Mapleton playoffs to begin
The Mapleton Little League regular season is winding down and the playoffs are set to begin next week.
Entering play on Monday, Doyen’s was in first place with a 7-1 record, followed by Buck Farms at 5-2, Tenney’s at 2-5 and Buck Construction at 1-7.
On Monday, July 22, the post-season begins with the first- and fourth-place teams battling at 6 p.m. On Tuesday, July 22, the No. 2 and No. 3 teams will square off at 6 p.m., with the two winners playing in the title game Thursday, July 24 at 5:30 p.m., with awards also being presented to all participants that evening.
Scores and summaries of some of the games played from June 24 through July 11 are as follows:
Buck Farms 4, Buck Construction 3
Buck Farms came out on top in a close game, pushing across a tie-breaking run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Andrew Hewitt and Cole Paterson each reached base twice with a single and a walk and Hewitt stood out with several nice plays at third base.
Doyen’s 12, Tenney’s 2
Jaren Winger allowed two runs over five innings of work, striking out 12 along the way, to lead Doyen’s to the victory.
Jonah Hudson had three hits and scored three runs to lead the winning offense, while Winger went 2 for 3 with two doubles and two RBI. Zack Fletcher and Connor DeMerchant both added two hits and combined for three RBI.
Doyen’s 11, Buck Construction 0
DeMerchant pitched three scoreless innings and Zack Fletcher came in for one inning of scoreless relief. They combined to strike out six batters.
Winger had a homer, a triple and a double and drove in five runs for Doyen’s. Justin Robidou had two hits and two RBI and Fletcher two hits and an RBI, while DeMerchant and Trombley added a hit each. Buck Construction had several opportunities to score, but couldn’t come up with the key hit in the shutout loss. The offense was led by Andrew Hewitt, who had a double. Ian Michaud made a great defensive play at first base.
Tenney’s 9, Buck Construction 4
Buck Construction was led by Ian Michaud, who doubled, with Brian Ellis and Jacob Sjoberg each chipping in with singles. Andrew Hewitt made a great defensive play by catching a pop-up down the first base line in full stride. He also pitched two shutout innings. Cole Paterson pitched a great third inning by striking out the side in order.
Doyen’s 9, Tenney’s 6
Torey Levesque went 3 for 4 with two doubles and a single and scored once, while Hudson went 3 for 3 with a double and two singles and three runs scored as Doyen’s downed Tenney’s.
Fletcher had two hits and drove in three runs to add to the attack.
Hudson pitched four innings and struck out 12 during the stint, DeMerchant pitched 1-2/3 innings and fanned three, while Winger entered in the sixth and gained the save.
Buck Farms 10, Buck Construction 5
Ricky Goupille and Dakota Morrow pitched Buck Farms to the triumph.
For Buck Construction, Cole Paterson reached base all three times with two hits and a walk. Jacob Sjoberg provided a lift with two hits as well. Tyler Farnham returned from vacation and continued his consistent at bats, making contact and collecting his first base hit of the year.
Doyen’s 9, Buck Construction 3
Trombley and Levesque had two hits each, while Winger, Hudson and Fletcher combined for 16 strikeouts on the mound as Doyen’s came through with the win.
Levesque tripled and had an inside-the-park homer to key the offense.
Thomas Patenaude pitched well for Buck Construction and led the offense with two hits and a walk. Paterson chipped in by reaching base twice. Ellis continued his strong play by making several nice defensive plays and Andrew Hewitt caught a great game.
