PATTEN – Annie Irene (Campbell) Somers, 99, died Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at Mountain Heights Health Care Facility, Patten. She was born April 15, 1914, in Patten, daughter of Israel and Sadie Campbell.
At the age of 99, she was Patten’s oldest citizen. Throughout her life she had many occupations, working at Rest Haven Nursing Home, JM Huber Corporation, Katahdin Valley Health Center, Katahdin Lodge and Camps, as well as cleaning many homes in the Patten area. She was a member of Stetson Memorial United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Patten Women’s Club, Rebecca Lodge, Patten Senior Citizens and Shin Pond Babes. She is survived by her children, Gene Somers and Donna Patterson of Houlton, Raymond and Glenda, Richard, Sadie and Wayne Heath and Vicki and Steve Richardson, all of Patten; daughters-in-law, Marilyn Somers of Patten and Lois Somers of Oakfield; 10 grandchildren, Monica, Ricky, Steve, Glady, David, Debbie, Jeff, Matthew, Kirsten and Nathan; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grand-daughter; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Spurgeon; three sons, Spurgeon Jr., Cecil and Robert; four grandchildren, Glenn, Barry, Faith and Lisa; three sisters, Lenna, Mary and Mae; and two brothers, Mike and Rufus. Friends may call 9-11 a.m. Saturday, at Stetson Memorial United Methodist Church, Patten, with a funeral service being held 11 a.m. with Steve Richardson officiating.
