FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine — The County Federal Credit Union has given the Aroostook Agency on Aging its first of seven Count on The County awards.
The Count on The County initiative is presenting $1,000 checks each month through the end of the year to non-profit organizations in Aroostook County within its field of membership to help them carry on their good works.
The County Federal Credit Union presented Stephen Farhman, executive director of Aroostook Agency on Aging, with the $1,000 on June 27.
This award will benefit the agency’s Meals-on-Wheels program, providing delivery of prepared meals to the sick, frail or homebound citizens.
In Aroostook County, 14 percent of those 65 and older indicate they have skipped meals or cut back on food because of financial concerns; 33 percent indicate they worry constantly that they haven’t enough money to feed those in their household.
The credit union encourages everyone to take part in this initiative by nominating a deserving organization. Applications are available in all branch locations and online at www.countyfcu.org. Eligible submissions must be a 501(c) non-profit organization in good standing.
Each month the Count on The County selection committee will choose a non-profit organization from the list of submissions to receive the award.
