Any-deer permit application deadline
The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is now accepting applications for the 2013 any-deer (antlerless) permit lottery.
Paper applications must be postmarked by Friday, July 26. Online applications are due by 11:59 p.m. on Aug. 15 and can be found by visiting www.mefishwildlife.com.
It is free to apply for the any-deer permit lottery. The lottery drawing will be held on Sept. 9 and results will be posted on the department’s website after 2 p.m.
Tiger practices set to begin soon
The dates and times for the beginning of the fall sports season at Fort Fairfield Middle High School have been announced and are as follows:

Soccer officials’ clinic
The Northern Maine Board of Approved Soccer Officials will conduct a clinic for prospective soccer officials Saturday, Aug. 3 at 9 a.m. in the ski building at the Caribou High School athletic complex.
Bob Stedt, NMBASO rules interpreter, will be the clinician.
Anybody 18 years of age or older who is interested in officiating the game of soccer this fall on the middle school and junior varsity levels in Aroostook County is urged to attend.
There is a $35 fee for the clinic. Pre-registration is recommended.

Golf tourney at AVCC benefits hall of fame
The third annual Maine Basketball Hall of Fame Golf Scramble will take place Friday, Aug. 2 at Aroostook Valley Country Club in Fort Fairfield. This will be a four-person Oldsmobile scramble with an 11 a.m. shotgun start. Registration will be from 10-10:45 a.m. The field is limited to the first 40 paid teams. Entry fee is $60 per person and includes a steak or chicken BBQ.
The proceeds of this tournament will go to the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame in support of the hall that will be located in a wing of the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, which is now under construction and will be the future site of the Eastern Maine Basketball Tournament.

Softball batting practice Saturdays in New Sweden
A slow pitch softball batting practice, for any interested senior 55 years of age and older, is being offered Saturdays at the baseball field behind Northstar Variety in New Sweden beginning at 9 a.m.

Basketball camp coming to Limestone
The SJV Stars Travel Basketball Camp will make a stop in Limestone for a camp to be offered July 29-Aug. 2 at Limestone Community School.
The camp will feature daily instruction from top area high school and college players and coaches. Fundamental instruction, daily games and contests, lectures and demonstrations are all part of the camp Grades K-2 will meet from 9-10:30 a.m. and grades 3-8 from 9-noon. The fee is $20 for the younger age group and $40 for the older division.
