PRESQUE ISLE — Members of the Northern Maine Fair Association have announced plans to host the first ever Texas Hold ‘em Poker Tournament during the 159th annual fair.
The $100 buy-in event is scheduled to begin on Saturday, Aug. 3, at 4 p.m. inside the Forestry Building on the Northern Maine Fairgrounds.
“This is an exciting new event we’re featuring at this year’s fair. We’ve heard a lot of buzz so far and we’re hoping to make this a premiere annual event. It will be fun and hopefully a huge draw for fairgoers,” said AJ Cloukey, poker tournament chair.
The idea for the event came about as Association members sought new ideas to draw people to the fair. Cloukey suggested the tournament as one option to attract a larger crowd.
“We’re asking people to register, come out and try their luck at this exciting new one-day event,” said Cloukey.
Registration is limited to 100 participants, so pre-registration is recommended.
“Registration the day of the event will begin at 3:30 p.m. The number and amount of payouts will be determined immediately prior to the start of the tournament,” said Cloukey.
“Come help us celebrate the 159th annual Northern Maine Fair — and try to make some money in the process,” Cloukey said.
