GHCA receives largest gift in its history

HOULTON — John Bishop, GHCA head of school and Peter Holmes, chair, GHCA board of directors, have announced that Greater Houlton Christian Academy (GHCA) has received a $220,000 gift, the largest donation in its  history.

“It is hard to find words to describe the excitement and gratitude we have for such a generous gift,”  said Bishop. “Our donors, who wish to remain anonymous, have been pleased with the recent upgrades we  have made to the school and wish for us to continue those efforts. Just as importantly, we are grateful for their clear vote of confidence in our school and the education we offer students.”
The donors have provided the gift with a few requests for specific projects, including finishing the upgrades to the high school science lab and continuing efforts to improve other key areas of the facilities.
“As GHCA gears up for its 30th anniversary in 2014, if we are not mistaken, it also happens to be the 100th anniversary of Lambert School,” said Holmes. “We feel as though our anniversary celebration has started early. We look forward to sharing this with the entire community.”
GHCA looks forward to a community open house later this year to thank all those that have been part of its renovation efforts. GHCA is currently accepting applications for the 2013-14 school year. It offers a safe, nurturing environment for children ages preK through 12th grades. Families currently attending GHCA often express their appreciation for an environment of learning that includes one of shared values that can have a lifetime impact on their children, said Bishop.
In 2010, GHCA became accredited for a 10-year term by the New England Association of Schools and  Colleges (NEASC), making it only the second Christian school in the state to become accredited. NEASC is the nation’s oldest accrediting association and is the organization that accredits public and private schools in the New England area. GHCA received ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International) accreditation at the same time, making the school dual-accredited.
Greater Houlton Christian Academy has provided a Christian education to students from Aroostook County, New Brunswick and even international students. For more information visit  www.ghca.com, “Like” them on Facebook, or contact the office at 532-0736.
