The annual Caribou Cares About Kids festival begins Thursday, Aug. 8 with the theme of, “Caribou: On the Move!” The Chamber will kick off activities with our annual Tie-Dye Extravaganza that morning from 10 until 2 in the afternoon. There will be T-shirts available for the kids to tie-dye for just a dollar. We will have face and nail painting. Tim the Tune Man will be there to entertain and the Aroostook Republican will throw a barbecue just outside. A bounce house will also be available!
That same night (Thursday, the 8th) will be another Thursdays on Sweden event and this one will include all of the fun of the previous ventures but the music will be for a teen dance. A special DJ and video show will get those teen feet moving. The rest of us can enjoy and wish we were that young again.
On Friday, United Insurance will join forces with the Fire & Ambulance Department (along with CERT) for a barbecue- ice cream blowout on High Street. Then at six in the evening, the big parade begins followed by movie night at eight.
Saturday will be Fun Day at Teague Park with all kinds of fun events and vendors. The park and the city are usually full, so we are expecting no less this year.
The four days of fun will wrap up on Sunday with a pig roast at Collins Pond Park hosted by ASMC/AGA Warrior Walkers (Relay for Life team) at noon.
Mark the dates, August 8, 9, 10 and 11 on your calendar for an “On the Move” celebration. If you would like to be a part of the parade, please come in and fill out a form, or download, complete and e-mail me the registration form located on our website at cariboumaine.net under the Popular Forms menu. If you would like to host an event during the four days of activities, there is also a form for that in the same place. We would love for you to participate.
Line-up for the parade begins at five and we will have judges to vote for the best “Caribou-On the Move” float and banners.
As you can tell, the city and the Chamber are doing as much as it can to bring excitement to our area. Thursdays have quickly become a smashing success and this year’s CCAK’s “Caribou: On the Move” event will be loads of fun and again bring people together. Support our efforts by joining the Chamber. First-year memberships are only $75 with a renewal fee of $135 for subsequent years. Not only is the Chamber a part of the city’s efforts to bring people to our streets, but the Chamber’s Facebook page has become one of the most popular in The County and a great venue for promoting your business or organization!
As I ponder our membership rolls, one huge gap is for hair dressers, barbers and beauty salons. There are none on the membership roster. As I was pondering that gap, it occurs to me that such a gap makes sense. Most of these businesses are self-contained and small operations. But that does not mean that publicity would not help the business acutely. As such, I have come up with a special rate just for you if you own such a business. Join the Chamber for only $50 for the first year and get all the membership privileges and benefits. Call me today if you are interested. I would love to promote what you do.
The Veterans Memorial Park Association dedicated their park on Saturday. I was sorry to miss it as it was my son’s last day in town. But being right next door here to the park, I can tell you the wonderful changes that have occurred. The park is beautiful and a fitting tribute to those who have served our country. Way to go, folks!
