PRESQUE ISLE — A new sporting goods store, Northern Athletic Supply, is slated to open for business Saturday, Aug. 3, at 260 Main St., will doors open to the public following a special event outside the facility.
“The store will offer both new and used sporting goods, in addition to athletic apparel, accessories, with special attention given to hockey equipment, apparel and accessories,” said Sara Shaw, co-owner.
In addition to selling a variety of different sporting goods, Sara said the store will offer screen printing as well as skate sharpening year-round.
“Team sales to leagues, recreation departments and athletic departments will also be a main focus for the shop, which is located between Big Cheese Pizza and The Cubby,” said Sara.
Co-owner Jason Shaw is excited about the opportunity to fill a void in The County that has been there since Goldsmith’s left its Presque Isle location.
“We are anxiously anticipating the opening of our doors. We bought a lot of great inventory from a Presque Isle native who owned a sporting goods store downstate. We’re excited to bring these goods and services back up to the Presque Isle area,” said Jason.
Shaw said sports enthusiasts will now have someone closer to home to find the sporting goods they desire.
“We’ve heard over and over about how people have to drive to Bangor to get the gear they need for sports. We are happy to be able to give athletes a quality, local option and save them some travel money,” said Jason.
“In addition to providing The County with necessary sporting goods and services, we also intend to give back to the surrounding communities,” emphasized Sara.
“Prior to even officially opening our doors, we approached individuals about a number of upcoming sporting events and asked them how we could help. Sports played a huge part in our lives and we love that we’re in a position where we can give back and help others enjoy sports and provide opportunities for them as well,” Sara said.
In addition to a special tent event prior to their opening, the owners of the family-owned and -operated store are also making themselves available via phone at 554-7019 or e-mail at northernathleticssupply@gmail.com if individuals in the community are in need of equipment, screen printing or apparel prior to the official opening of the business.
Additional information can also be found on the store’s Facebook page by searching for Northern Athletic Supply.
“We encourage people to ‘like’ our page to receive daily updates on the opening, special deals and promotional items,” said Sara.
