Dirigo Boys and Girls State is the premier leadership program for high school juniors. Sponsored by the American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary, the one-week summer programs are focused on state government and how it functions through a mock Dirigo State government. The students participated in party caucuses, platform development, mock elections, bill hearings and legislative sessions. Each student had a role of either an elected or appointed official or fulfilling an assignment as a responsible citizen. Dirigo Boys State was held at Thomas College in Waterville, while Dirigo Girls State was held at Husson University in Bangor during the week of June 16-21.
