To the editor:
I would like to express my thanks to two individuals who have put so much time and effort into making our small Washburn Memorial Library such an inviting place for the citizens of Washburn, Perham and Wade.
Many thanks go out to Katherine Vietschegger, the librarian. As well as being welcoming and so accommodating to all, Katherine applied for and received several large grants to benefit the library. One was used to purchase new children’s books and quite a collection of large print books. The larger grant from the Tabitha and Stephen King Foundation was used to refurbish the lower level of the library. That area is now a beautifully decorated space that can be used for various library activities, civic and business meetings, book clubs, knitting groups, etc.
Sadly for us, Katherine and her husband have recently moved from our area. She will be missed. We wish her luck in her new home.
I would also like to thank Gary Cole of Washburn. Gary has spent many hours beautifying the outside of the library. Gary’s projects included hand painting a new sign, power washing the siding, painting the front door and planting gorgeous flower boxes. Gary has done a wonderful job and it certainly shows.
Our towns are fortunate to have two such dedicated individuals. Again, I express my thanks and appreciation to Katherine and Gary.
