PI duo wins Aroostook title
CARIBOU — The Aroostook County Doubles Tennis Tournament, sponsored by the Northern Maine Community Recreation Association, was held Aug. 1 at Teague Park, with host Caribou earning victories in five of the six divisions.

The tournament was for area youths between the ages of 8 and 18, with 30 participants from both Caribou and Presque Isle participating. The preliminary matches included eight-game pro sets, with the finals consisting of best two of three six-game sets.
In the 12-and-under girls’ division, two teams from Caribou advanced to the finals, with Sarah Nouhan and Sage Dubay defeating Madison Stratton and Livia Bouchard, 6-4, 7-6 (9-7).
The 12-and-under boys’ bracket also had two Caribou teams vying for the title. In the end, the brother combination of Parker and Sawyer Deprey played near flawless tennis in overwhelming teammates Brevin Barnes and Sebastian Marquis, 6-0, 6-1.
Gabrielle Marquis and Ciara Richards of Caribou outlasted teammates Hailey Holmquist and Megan Dube in the 13-15 girls’ final, 6-4, 6-1.
Caribou players reached the championship match in the 13-15 boys’ division, with Ethan Plourde and Gabe Rand applying a consistent combination of power and finess in picking up a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Alec Cyr and Seth Beidelman.
Familiar rivals from Caribou and Presque Isle made their way to the finals in the 16-18 girls’ division. Ashley Richards and Erin Patton of Caribou played a steady baseline game to take the win over PI’s Blair Bailey and Michelle Cawley, 6-1, 6-2.
The Viking-Wildcat rivalry continued in the 16-18 boys’ bracket, with PI’s Liam Hughes and Lance Jandreau able to pick up a win over Michael Marquis and Zac Gorence, 6-3, 6-4.
This was the 30th consecutive year that Caribou has taken home the team title, which took into account results from both the singles and doubles tournaments. The singles event was held at the University of Maine at Presque Isle July 22.
Caribou garnered 29 points, followed by PI with six and Fort Kent with one.
Also competing for Presque Isle were Isaac Madore, Judah Olugbemi, Hillary Boucher and Sarah Morneault.
