RBD surprises Cushman’s in final

PRESQUE ISLE — Rod Brewer Design gained a dominant 7-1 win over top-seeded Cushman’s in an all-Presque Isle final which determined the Northern Maine Community Recreation Association 13-15 year-old baseball champion.

The game was played at the pool field Thursday.
RBD had lost the regular season series to Cushman’s convincingly, but put things together in the playoff matchup. Andrew Paterson tossed a five-hitter, striking out 13 while walking just one batter to earn the pitching victory.
For the winning offense, Khasen Lowe, Caleb Nadeau, Kyle Rider and Denny Young had two hits apiece, while Paterson added another. Alexis Quevedo sparked the defense with two fine plays to thwart Cushman’s rallies.
Ryan Player’s two hits paced Cushman’s and he also scored his team’s lone run. Sam Gray, Nick Bartlett and Ben Buckley added a hit apiece.
Gray did a bulk of the pitching for Cushman’s, fanning 12 in the contest.
The Aroostook County semifinals were held Aug. 1, with Cushman’s scoring a 12-6 triumph over County Federal Credit Union of Caribou and RBD edging Aroostook Federal Savings and Loan, also of Caribou, 2-1.
