    Smith, Donald D., 87, August 15, 2013.  Graveside services will be held today at 11 a.m. at the Maine Veteran’s Cemetery, Caribou.  Arrangements by Bowers Funeral Home.

PT Donald Smith    American Flag ColorLITTLETON – Donald DeVere Smith, 87, died August 15 in Houlton. He was born September 28, 1925, in Plattsburgh NY, the son of Donald W. and Waneta Hattie (Covell) Smith.
    Donald entered the U.S. Air Force in 1944, retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant after 30 years of service. He has been awarded five Air Force Commendation medals and appropriate awards for his service in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He married Bobbie Jean Fix of McAlester, OK on January 30, 1956. His wife of 19 years passed away in December of 1975. He will be especially missed by his coffee group in Old Lyme, CT where he lived for 12 years with his daughter, Phyllis before he moved to Maine in 2008. He made many new friends in Maine.
    Donald is survived by six children; Phyllis Jean Cote of Littleton, Linda Francine Andrews, Sandra Kay Mitchell, both of Merced, CA, Jill Arlene Byrne of Ludlow, MA, Teresa Gale Foster of Littleton, and David Scott Smith of Midpines, CA; and ten grandchildren.
    A gathering was held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, August 20 at Meduxnekeag Snowsled Club.  Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. on Wednesday in the Maine Veteran’s Cemetery, Caribou, where he will be laid to rest along with his wife, Bobbie, with full military honors.
