CARIBOU — Tanya Sleeper, executive director of Aroostook Home Health Services and Valley Home Health Services, was chosen by Saint Joseph’s College Online as the college’s graduate and professional studies division’s Graduate Nursing Faculty Member of the Year.

“We are most grateful for Tanya’s expertise and devotion to nurses who are students and nurses who are faculty,” Dr. Cynthia King, Saint Joseph’s program director, stated.
Saint Joseph’s College is accredited by the New England Association of Schools & Colleges and offers both online and on-campus curriculums. The campus is located in Standish just outside of Portland.
Sleeper has taught for Saint Joseph’s graduate nursing program since 2010. In addition, she is also an assistant professor of nursing at the University of Maine Fort Kent.
According to King, Sleeper received the Faculty Member of the Year award due to her high level of commitment and flexibility.
“During the last year she has worked on the Faculty Focus Committee, which is an orientation committee, and took on an additional course when another faculty member could no longer do it,” King pointed out.
And Sleeper has done this all while working on her doctorate of philosophy in public policy and administration from Walden University, preparing her dissertation and being the mother of two daughters, age 6 and 9.
“I’m a little bit busy,” Sleeper laughed.
The award is usually presented during a conference at Saint Joseph’s, but Sleeper was unable to attend because of jury duty.
“I am so humbled and honored to receive this award,” Sleeper said in a thank-you statement to Saint Joseph’s. “I enjoy the students tremendously. I am proud to be part of such a wonderful and dynamic nursing facility, which serves as such an inspiration and motivation to me to continually strive for academic excellence.”
