OLD ORCHARD BEACH – Mark Lewis Kane, 82,  passed away early Saturday morning on August 17, 2013, at The Monarch Center in Saco. He was born in Portland on June 14, 1931, a son of Martin J. and Barbara (Mulkerrin) Kane who immigrated from Galway, Ireland.
    He graduated from Cathedral Grammar and Cheverus High School, class of 1949. While at Cheverus, Mark worked for Louie’s Jewelry Store and eventually joined Day’s Jewelry. When the Korean Conflict started, Mark left Day’s and enlisted in the United States Air Force. Mark was honorably discharged with a rank of sergeant. A few months after rejoining Day’s, Mark was promoted to manager of the Caribou store, becoming the youngest manager in the 20 chain store.
    Eventually Mark left Day’s to own and operate his own successful jewelry store, Brown’s Jewelry, along with his wife, Wanda. The business expanded to three locations in Presque Isle, Caribou and Houlton.
    In 1986, Mark and Wanda retired and became long term residents of Old Orchard Beach and Boyton Beach, Florida.
    Mark enjoyed remodeling his own residences and traveling extensively abroad and within the United States.
    His hobbies included collecting stamps, coins and clocks. He loved walking with his brother, John Boy and liked to play cards with his family and friends.
    He was predeceased by two sisters, Barbara Jeffery and Anne Black; and by one brother, John Boy.
    He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Wanda (Sirois) Kane; two brothers, Martin F. Kane and his wife, Jacqueline, Robert P. Kane and his wife, Daisy; one sister, Sally K. Bonnvie and her husband, William; mother-in-law, Mary Sirois; brothers-in-law, Frederick T. Jeffery Jr., Phillip Black, Robert C. Sirois and Warren Sirois; sisters-in-law, Patricia Williams and Gloria Ouillette; several nieces and nephews.
    Visiting hours were from 6-8 p.m., Wed., at Cote Funeral Home, 87 James St., Saco. A Funeral Mass was held at 11 a.m., Thursday, at Most Holy Trinity Church, Good Shepherd Parish in Saco.
