WASHBURN — The Washburn Beavers, led by coach Ben Goodwin and his assistant, Ron Ericson, will build on a team that already includes a solid core of athletes.
Goodwin says that all the players are currently in contention for a starting position and they’ll have to earn their spot each game through “hard work, dedication, and hustle.”
Sophomore Jarrett Olson will start the season in goal, with the defense rotating between seniors Keagan Page and Anthony Singletary, sophomores Brandon Farley, Justin Davis, Tyler Jardine, Parker Thompson, Keenan Jordan and Benton Plante; and freshmen Cameron Hartford, McCall Turner, Bryce Roix and Caleb Thompson.
Midfielders this season will include Davis, Turner, and Jordan, along with juniors Michael Ericson, Noah Farley, Alex Pelletier and Cameron Bragg, sophomores Carter Doak and Noah Caron, and freshman Andrew Gumprecht.
Taking turns at forward will be Noah Farley, Ericson, Pelletier, Gumprecht, Doak and Bragg.
Goodwin is excited to have some options this season.
“We have some speed that we haven’t necessarily had in the past,” he said. “[And] with the depth in our bench we will be able to rotate fresh legs in to keep the pressure on our opponent.”
This year’s gameplan for the Beavers is to work harder than the opponent and improve every game in order to make a “strong run deep into the playoffs.”
Goodwin believes every game will matter.
“I think that there will be a pack of strong teams that will win their fair share of games, which makes nearly every game key to earning points,” he said.
