CARIBOU — On Sept. 11, the Caribou Fire & Ambulance Department conducted a ceremony to honor the victims of the New York City terrorist attack that occurred 12 years prior.

The CFAD conducts a ceremony annually, and this year, members of the audience for the service included students from the area, many of whom were not yet born when the dreadful act took place in 2001.
Caribou Fire Chief Scott Susi led the ceremony, which included a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m., the exact time that the first airplane struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center.  Bruce Thibeault of the CFAD Honor Guard read the “Folds of the Flag” as the remaining members of the team ceremoniously folded an American flag, which was placed by Honor Guard member Lance Longley at a memorial put together by the department in front of the station.
Fred Parsons of the Presque Isle Fire Department concluded the ceremony by singing a rendition of “Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning,” a song written by country star Alan Jackson after the attack.
