CARIBOU — The Aroostook Junior Huskies football team played their home opener Saturday at Sincock Field and were impressive in the 58-31 victory over Millinocket.
Quarterback Greyson Sonntag of Mapleton was 7 of 8 passing on the day, throwing one touchdown pass and running in four others.
Tight end Joshua Baldwin of Presque Isle had a pair of receiving touchdowns, one from Dylan Paddleford, and running back Apollo Grondin of Caribou had a 50-yard TD score on the first play from scrimmage to set the tone early.
Evan Michaud of Caribou, Andre Daigle of Presque Isle and Justin Edwards-Robidou of Mapleton contributed with some tough running yards.
Coach Jon Frederick credited center Izaiah Thayer of Caribou for being outstanding with his shotgun snaps all game.
Defensively, tackle Matt O’Connell of Presque Isle was disruptive throughout and forced and recovered a fumble that led to a Huskies’ score. Ends Grondin and Noah Rosado of Caribou provided strong outside play and each made several key tackles.
The Huskies play again Saturday at 1 p.m. in Houlton.
