The Houlton Recreation Department will be offering a variety of fitness classes this fall. Most classes require a registration by Sept. 23. To register, call the recreation department at 532-1310.
Classes being offered are as follows:
Cardio Pilates: This eight-week class is designed for the beginner or those who want a less strenuous
workout, but need to build their strength, stamina and flexibility. It is 45 minutes of light cardio, strength training with hand weights and pilates on the mat. If you haven’t exercised for a while or have physical limitations, this class is for you. Classes will be held each Tuesday and Thursday, starting Sept. 24 from 4-4:45 p.m. Instructor is Yvonne Hyman. Cost is $45 for Houlton residents and $65 for non-Houlton residents. Bring a yoga mat and one- to three-pound weights.
Piyo: This class is all about energy, power and rhythm. It blends strength training and core conditioning with cardio pilates and yoga to form an intense workout that will shape your body while working out to upbeat music. Classes will run for eight weeks and will be held each Tuesday and Thursday, starting on Sept. 24 from 5-6 p.m. Instructor is Yvonne Hyman. Cost is $45 for Houlton residents and $65 for non-Houlton residents. Bring a yoga mat and one- to three-pound weights.
Zumba: This eight week class will be held each Tuesday and Thursday, starting on Sept. 24 at 6:15 p.m. Lura Griffin is the instructor for this Latin-inspired, dance fitness class. The class format combines fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body in an aerobic/fitness fashion. Cost is $45 for Houlton residents and $65 for non-Houlton residents. Participants should wear sneakers and comfortable clothes.
Recess Rocks for Children: This program is a fun, comprehensive movement enrichment program that helps reverse childhood obesity and enhances learning for children ages 5-12. It combines aerobic movements with upbeat music to get kids fit while inspiring life long healthy habits. Class will be held on Wednesday starting Oct. 16 from 3:30-4:15 p.m. Cost for this six-week program $20 for Houlton residents and $30 for non-Houlton residents. Registrations will be taken until Oct. 11 by calling 532-1310.
