Rotary meetings to be held at Rec Center

The Washburn Rotary Club is planning to move their meetings to the Rec Center in the near future.
First, however, some major renovations have been necessary. The ceilings and lights have been replaced, a large cabinet moved and rebuilt, and the dark blue walls are being painted. When completed, the room will be used by the Rotary Club and available to other groups as well.

Amateur radio license testing
Amateur radio licensing examinations will be offered in Washburn on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at the Baptist Church (across from the park). Testing will start at 6:30 p.m. Walk-ins will be accepted. Examinees must have two forms of positive identification and their Social Security number. Licensed amateurs trying to upgrade must have in their possession the original license and any original certificates of completion and a clear photocopy of each. Contact the team VE leader in advance if special exam facilities are required or proposed. The cost is $15. For further information call Steve, N1NXU, at 227-2473.
Harvest break
Thursday, Sept. 19, will be an early release day for all Washburn SAD 45 students. Students will return to school on Oct. 15. Please watch for playing children and drive carefully.
Rec news
The Washburn Recreation Department will be taking a trip to Playland Adventures in Brewer on Wednesday, Sept. 25. this trip is for Washburn students in second grade or higher.
On Friday, Sept. 27, the Washburn Recreation Department will be going to Goughan’s Farm and will be having lunch at McDonald’s. This trip is for students in grade 2 and up and the cost is $7.50.
To sign up for either of these trips or for more information, call the Washburn Recreation Department director, Marcie Barbarula, at 455-4954; limited van seating is available and are available to those who sign up on a first-come first-serve basis.
Race results announced
The results of the 2013 Washburn August Festival 3K Race have been announced. Following is a list of participants and their times (listed in minutes and seconds): finishing first was Ryan Washington, 9:17; in second was Leo Kashian, 9:32; and third was Trevor Levesque 9:41.
