SHERMAN, Maine — The Maine Municipal Association has recognized Sherman for producing a high-quality annual report.
Sherman was one of 17 communities recognized by the MMA during the group’s annual town report competition. The town won the “superior” award based on its population category of 500-999 residents. Judges for MMA rate the reports in five population categories: 5,000 and over; 2,500 to 4,999; 1,000 to 2,499; 500 to 999; and, under 500. Awards are named Supreme (first place), Superior (second place) and Excellence (third place) in each category.
Jackman won the supreme award in the 500-999-population category, while Winter Harbor was given the excellence award.
“Every year we submit our report to the Maine Municipal Association, just like every other community does,” explained Town Manager Debbie O’Roark. “I was surprised when I received the letter in the mail saying we had won.”
O’Roark said this was the first time in her 25 years with the town this was only the second time Sherman has been recognized for its town report.
MMA’s Annual Report Competition, which has been held for 50 years, recognizes municipalities for producing reports for their citizens that have excellent content, are well organized and visually appealing. Some 226 municipalities entered reports this year.
Winning municipalities were notified by letter earlier this month. They will be recognized and the reports will be displayed at MMA’s Annual Convention, Oct. 2-3 at the Augusta Civic Center.
