Happy Days update

The Easton Senior Happy Days Club met on Thursday, Sept. 12, for a pizza dinner with 15 members and one guest present. The guest speaker was Kimberly Sebold, a professor of history at University of Maine Presque Isle. She spoke on the history of Easton from the 1840s to present day and shared information on the upcoming sesquicentennial. She displayed many old maps of Easton that showed the town and its buildings; it was interesting how much it had changed in a relatively short time period. There was a lot of interest and many questions were answered.
On Sept. 26, the group took a bus trip to Lakeview Restaurant in St. Agatha to view the fall foliage. Their next meeting will be Thursday, Oct. 10, for a potluck dinner in the Manor Recreation Room. October is Fire Prevention Month and a local firefighter will be speaking. Easton seniors are invited to attend and bring a friend. They hope to see you at their meetings!

Youth program kicks off

Children from Easton and Presque Isle had a fun time at the Incredible Race kick-off event at the Easton Wesleyan Church. Everyone signed their name to the side of a sports car provided by Jerry and Tammy Palmer (Jerry’s Towing) and then had their picture taken in the driver’s seat. Participants also enjoyed four-wheeling around the church property. Special thanks to the drivers:Gail and Arlo McPherson, Janna Dodge, Nick Donovan, Mike Brown, Rebecca Allen, Bruce White, Charlene Lento, Peter Lento, Jim Shaw and Peggy Johnston. The event ended with drawings for special race car-themed prizes, including a checkered flag signed by some race car drivers, donated by Jerry Palmer.

Friends Helping Friends

The Friends Helping Friends food pantry in Easton has been active in our community for several years now providing food assistance. Many volunteers are needed to make sure food is ready for distribution. Special thanks is given to our crew, including Joe Lockhart and Keith Richardson and others, who pick up food from Catholic Charities in Caribou. They are met by other volunteers at the pantry who unload the food, check dates, prepare frozen foods and put food on the shelves. These volunteers include MaryAnn, Brandon, Katherine, and Danielle Hussey, as well as distribution director Vaughn Martin.
On distribution day Martin and the Hussey family are joined by Bonnie DeWitt, Debbie Tibbets and Cindy Bomar. Distribution day is very busy as these volunteers help clients gather their food, restock shelves, organize the freezers and tear down boxes. In addition, several volunteers deliver food to homes. These volunteers include Mike and Loris Allen, Ira and Janna Dodge, Joe Lockhart, Theresa Lloyd, Peggy Flewelling and Marcia Smith.
Every other month a local 4-H group under the direction of Cyndi Kimball comes to the pantry and assembles the food boxes that are delivered to homes. As you can see it takes many volunteers to run the pantry and a special thanks is extended to all who donate their time to help others. If you are interested in volunteering, call Vaughn Martin at 227-3589.
