It’s a beautiful and sunny day as this is being written. It’s fall in Maine and the early foliage is beautiful. Don’t you wish you lived in Maine? Busy place around here with people moving in and people moving out. It’s fun to watch, if you have the time.
Meeting Eugene Foster was a pleasure. He’s from this area so knows his way around! Visiting Winnie Briggs at her Military St. apartment are son Wayne from Maine, Reginald from California, Janice Ishii of Jacksonville, Fla, Carole Buzzle of Fryeburg, niece Shirley Gamble of Hampton, N.B., and her nearby daughter Vicki Jones of Houlton. Needless to say, Mattie was delighted to have her family come to visit.
Some friends of mine were recently in Newfoundland. They brought me back a ‘’Newfie’’ hat. If anyone comes from Newfoundland they are a ‘’Newfie.’’ Many readers know of this nickname. I have many first cousins in Newfoundland. They are great relatives!
I’m told fall officially started Sunday, Sept. 22. So far, it is a good one. In case you haven’t heard the annual rummage sale sponsored by the Houlton Council of Catholic Women is this weekend, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Council is no longer accepting computer, televisions, Janet Barker is in charge and you may call her if you are in doubt of anything or want to volunteer. Her telephone number is 532-3581.
The Ricker tenants are on a regular schedule for Bingo each Wednesday at 3 p.m. All new tenants are welcome.
Robin Chambers continues her exercises Monday and Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. in the community room. She gives a drawing once a month for an incentive. The exercises are very gentle.
Some have been apple picking. Not me, but I have been eating some goof apples. Fran Cunliffe who lives near the community park in Houlton has been visiting her sister in Connecticut. Many people at Ricker have been enjoying the swings on a warm morning or afternoon. Thomas Suitter has been helping one of the movers nearby. Doris Hogan, who used to live on the third floor, is in Madigan now. We miss you, Doris, and your faithful daughter Vicky.
Someone in the Henderson family (Charlene’s) shot a moose. I didn’t write it down so I’m not sure who shot it! Christie Hutchinson’s father is a patient at Gardiner Nursing Home.
The community is saddened by the deaths of Michael Kitchen and Heidi Pratt. Mike was my mechanic, so my condolences to his family, mother, father, and brother. I didn’t know Heidi but it was a tragedy the whole community feels. Our sympathy is felt.
My angel quote for the day is: ‘’I will talk of things heavenly.’’ (John Bunyon) See you next week, I hope. Have a beautiful day!
