• L. K. Duff has leased the bowling parlor and assumed the management of the same.
• Andrew Norrell, the harness dealer, was united in marriage Wednesday to Miss Rodereck Norbeck at the bride’s home in Woodland.

100 Years Ago-Oct. 16, 1913

• New Sweden news — Robert Westman and Ellerth Anderson are attending high school at Washburn, and John Hedman at Caribou. Rev. C. Swanson will preach in the Westmanland school house, Sunday, Oct. 26 at 7 o’clock p.m. A public auction will be held at the home of Alfred Strobeck, Tuesday, Oct. 21, with Eric O. Hedman, auctioneer.
• Products then and now — The following products were advertised in this week’s newspaper. “Ford is the People’s Car,” Town Car, $800, at Collins & Son, Northern Aroostook & Caribou; “Good Farms at Reasonable Prices,” Aroostook Real Estate Agency; “John Deere Plows,” available at Parent & Stevens, Sweden St., Caribou; and “Good tea is the result of care and experience,” Red Rose Tea.

75 Years Ago-Oct. 20, 1938

• Aroostook aerial mapping — The Aroostook Agricultural Conservation Association has undertaken this year the largest mapping job ever done in the state of Maine. Eight thousand individual farms have been mapped by means of aerial photography in order to determine the amount of potato acreage and cropland in Aroostook County.
• Of local interest — Mrs. Winston Knight of Fort Fairfield and Miss Jean Semple attended the hairdressing show in Bangor. Miss Dorothy Willey, a student at Cary Memorial Hospital has returned to her duties after spending two weeks at home in Limestone. Miss Ida Lister, teacher of the North Star School in Perham, spent the week end with Miss Ella Mae Russell.

50 Years Ago-Oct. 17, 1963

• Scout troop No. 184 organized — “A Ship” No. 184 Sea Explorer Boy Scouts of America, under the leadership of Galen Libby, has been organized and is under sponsorship of Lister-Knowlton VFW Post No. 9389. The troop meets each Thursday night. Its members, boys from 14 to 17 years of age, include George Blackstone, John Cormier Jr., Alan Cox, Gregory Daniels, Philip Johnson, Richard Keyser Jr., Ronald Miller, Darrell Olmstead Jr., Carl Olson, David Philbrick, Bernard Rediker, Richard Staples, Robert Tilley, Duane Walton and David Jalbert.
• Beef “Round up” specials — Featured this week at Mike’s Myty IGA and Golding’s IGA Foodliner are the following specials on beef: hamburg, 49 cents per lb., porterhouse or sirloin steaks, 99 cents per lb., and boneless top round steaks, 95 cents per lb.

• Energy conservation wisdom — State Energy Director Harvey DeVane urged Maine citizens to take advantage of today’s low oil prices by investing the money they are saving in energy conservation measures. “We must not allow ourselves to be lulled into a false sense of plenty… said DeVane. “As a society, we will do ourselves a favor if today’s savings are invested in fuel-efficient furnaces, added insulation, and in weatherization measures.”
• In the service — Air Force Airman 1st Class Rhonda L. Rogers, daughter of James L. and Alene J. Rogers of Limestone, has arrived for duty at Andrews Air Force Base, Md. Army Pvt. 1st Class Glen L. Theriault, son of Wilfred L. and Sylvia J. Theriault of Caribou, has arrived for duty at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.
