The Cup Café in the alley at 61 Military Street, Houlton, presents a special music night with Between Dead Stations electric blues duo this Friday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. No cover charge; tips encouraged.
Jacob Irish, one half of the band, has roots in Houlton. Between Dead Stations is the 2013 winner of the Maine Blues Society’s Best Maine Blues Duo, and is headed to Memphis, Tenn. in January 2014 to represent Maine in the International Blues Challenge competition.
Between Dead Stations is a modern blues duo featuring the songwriting, gritty vocals and searing guitars of Jake Irish, paired with the popping back beat of Mike E. Styx on drums and percussions. The combination is like gasoline and razor blades, with hard life, late nights and long roads adding a raw edge to their sound and electricity to their stage show. Between Dead Stations has a sound like a hot rod, that mashes elements of Americana with Roackabilly attitude on the outside, a Delta soul drivetrain and folk story-telling on the interior, it all fuses into a custom roadster built for comfort and built for speed.
The Cup Café serves a broad selection of quality espresso bar coffees including cappuccino, latte, espresso, mocha, seasonal flavors and barista specialties.
