Cross-country runners to compete Saturday in regional meet

    Runners from Aroostook County will compete in the Eastern Maine Regional cross-country meet in Belfast on Saturday.
    Last Wednesday, the Aroostook League championship race was held in Houlton, hosted by Greater Houlton Christian Academy.

    The Washburn girls and Fort Kent boys captured the Aroostook League titles. Carmen Bragg, a senior from Washburn, took first in the Aroostook League, along with Fort Kent junior Matthew Toussaint, who placed first overall for the boys.

sp-josh-dc-pt-43OVER HILL — GHCA senior cross-country runner Josh Winslow crossed a small stream to start up over the hill on the 2.9-mile course in Community Park.
    Bragg finished the title run on the 2.9-mile course at Community Park in a time of 19:58.10, while Toussaint crossed the finish line at 16:22.87.
    Runner up on the girls’ side was freshman Rylee Warman of GHCA with a time of 19:59.44 out of 20 competitors.
    Rounding out the top 10 were: junior Mackenzie Worcester, Washburn, 20:18.20; freshman Tori Koch, Washburn, 20:20.50; sophomore Emilia Churchill, Washburn, 20:34.72; junior Marianne Helton, Washburn, 22:19.97; senior Rudy Martin, Fort Kent, 22:25.28; Ellyzabeth Bencivenga, Limestone/MSSM, 23:20.84; junior Mikayla Churchill, Washburn, 24:00.62 and Eva Farkas, Limestone/MSSM, 24:50.24.
    GHCA junior Rachel Potter ran the course in 41:44.41.
    Placing second in the boys race was junior Sam Ouellette of Fort Kent with a time of 17:49.75 out of 19 runners.
    Coming in third, sophomore Derek Baker, Washburn, 18:19.12; fourth, junior Alex Pelletier, Washburn, 18:36.63; fifth, sophomore Charles Parham, Fort Kent, 18:47.74; sixth, junior Cameron Preston, Washburn, 18:54.54; seventh, junior Jared Michaud, Fort Kent, 19:02.67; eighth, freshman Skyler Bernstein, Fort Kent, 19:17.69; ninth, sophomore Kip Stanley, Fort Kent, 19:22.75 and 10th, junior Michael Ericson, Washburn, 19:23.89.
    GHCA freshman Ethan Jacques came in 15th with a time of 20:20.24, while senior Josh Winslow and freshman Sam Carmichael were 17th and 18th, respectively. Winslow’s time was 22:45.20 and Carmichael finished in 23:21.75.
