sp-SAMHA-dc-pt-43READY FOR THE SEASON — The Southern Aroostook Minor Hockey Association is getting ready for another hockey season. Last month, the new hockey boards, purchased by the town of Houlton, were installed and the ice is now being made for the kickoff of the season. Checking out the civic center were, from left, Barry and Darcy Lorom, Toby Henderson, Chris Weber, all SAMHA board members; Eugene Conlogue, town manager; Cindy DeLucca and Serenna Fitzpatrick, SAMHA board members and Haley Nickerson, civic center supervisor.

Ice is being made at the Millar Civic Center and that can only mean one thing … it’s hockey season.
To kick off the Southern Aroostook Minor Hockey Association (SAMHA) program, SAMHA’s board of directors, along with Haley Nickerson, supervisor the Millar Civic Center, are hosting “Try Hockey For Free.”

“Try Hockey For Free” will be held from 8:30-11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2 for youth ages 4-12.
“Hockey players will be there to assist your child in gearing up, lacing skates and leading them through on- and off-ice activities,” said Darcy Lorom of the SAMHA board. “This day will give your youngsters an opportunity to discover if hockey is the sport for them.”
Concessions will be served and there will be information available to all families about the SAMHA program.
“If you do not have skates — do not worry,” said Lorom. “We will have plenty to lend out for the day, along with helmets, pads, sticks and pucks. We will also have goodie bags for the kids. This is guaranteed to be a great time.”
On Saturday afternoon from 12-1 p.m., the Palmer Construction Bantams will be playing the Portland Pirates.
“This will give kids the chance to see hockey players in action,” said Lorom. “So, stick around, grab a snack and support youth hockey. It’s always a great day for hockey.”
