Caribou

3-on-3 high school basketball tourney

    The Caribou Parks and Recreation Department will host a 3-on-3 high school basketball tournament on Saturday, Nov. 9 at the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center. This tournament is for boys and girls currently in grades 9-12. Registration is $40 per team and the registration deadline is Nov. 1. Fall fun festival

    The annual fall fun festival at the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center takes place Thursday, Oct. 31 from 6-8 p.m. Fun and games will be offered to youths in Pre K through grade 6. There will be costume judging, games and prizes. The event is sponsored by the VFW and VFW Auxiliary.

Kids’ playgroup

    The recreation department will provide gym space for parents and toddlers. This is a self-guided program which meets Wednesdays from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Participants can bring toys. Please no black rubber-wheeled toys. Please check posted schedules for activities that may result in the cancellation of this open time.

Fall and winter programs

    There are still openings for the following  programs: grades 1 and 2 basketball session II, grades 3-4 boys and girls basketball, grade 4-6 girls basketball, grades 5-6 boys basketball and grades 4-6 cheerleading.
    The fee for these programs is $10 per child for residents and $25 per child for non-residents. Pre-registration is required. For additional information or a complete listing of the winter and spring programs, call the Caribou Parks and Recreation Department at 493-4224.

Youth ski rentals

    The Northern Skiers Club and the Caribou Parks and Recreation Department have partnered to bring the youth ski rental program back to Caribou for all local youth. This year, seasonal rentals will be available for all Caribou youths and includes skis, boots, poles and a carrier for a fee of $60, plus a $20 refundable deposit upon the return of the equipment in the spring. Rental forms will be distributed in October with the official sign-up and fitting night slated for Thursday, Nov. 21 from 6:30-8:20 p.m. at the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center.

Volunteers needed

    The recreation department is looking for volunteers to help assist with their youth basketball and youth skiing programs this winter. Interested individuals should contact the Caribou Parks and Recreation Department office to obtain a volunteer application.

Commemorative barrels auction

    These barrels have been designed and painted by local artists and are on sale via a silent auction via the City of Caribou website. Bidders can bid by emailing Kathy@caribou maine.org and check bidding by either logging onto cariboumaine.org or by contacting the recreation office at 493-4224. The barrels are on display at the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center.  The minimum bid is $50.


 

Fort Fairfield

Halloween Bonfire

    There will be a bonfire in front of the Fort Fairfield Community Center on Thursday, Oct. 31 in celebration of Halloween and all are welcome.
    The fire will start at 6 p.m. and burn until approximately 7 p.m. Hot chocolate and treats will be handed out on site.  

Zumba

    Zumba class is currently being held in Fort Fairfield at the elementary school on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:30-7:30 p.m. All are welcome to join the program. The cost is $6 per class or $40 for 10 classes.

Co-ed volleyball

    Co-ed volleyball for ages 16 and over will be held at the Fort Fairfield Community Center on Sunday evenings from 6-8 p.m. beginning this week and continuing through the end of April 2014.

Open gymnasium

    The Community Center gymnasium will be open to the public for free play basketball beginning this week. The hours will be: Monday-Friday from 2:45-5 p.m.; Friday and Saturday evenings from 6-8:30 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday afternoons from noon-4 p.m. All participants are reminded that street sneakers and shoes are not allowed on the gym floor. The facility will be closed Nov. 4 and 5 due to elections.  

Indoor walking/running

    The gymnasium is open to the public for walking and running Monday through Friday mornings from 6 a.m. to noon, except on holidays and Nov. 4 and 5 due to elections.

Adult basketball

    The Community Center gymnasium is open on Monday and Thursday evenings for adult basketball from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Play is informal with teams being selected each night from all those in attendance. The cost is $2 per person for the two hours of play each night.
