Unitarian Concert Series presents local favorites

HOULTON — Hometown boys Travis Humphrey and Derek Mills, drummer with the Portland-based band, Gunther Brown, will grace the stage at the Unitarian Concert Series on Saturday at 7 p.m. Advance tickets are on sale at York’s Bookstore and Visions for $10; tickets at the door will be $12. Children under 12 accompanied by an adult have free admission.

Humphrey’s musical talents and fine voice are well-known to music lovers in the area — from his humble Houlton rock ‘n’ roll beginnings with his dad Tim, to his Air Force Band days, to his Nashville recorded country rock releases.
For the Saturday concert, Humphrey joins fellow Houlton native Derek Mills on drums, who, with Pete Dubuc on rhythm guitar/lead vocals, and Chris Plumstead on lead guitar/back-up vocals, form the band Gunther Brown.
Gunther Brown plays original music that is solidly Americana and borrows from folk, rock and old time country. The band’s hooks are infectious; poppy enough to get you singing along with enough soul to make it worth another listen. Reviewers have characterized Gunther Brown’s music as “earthy, eloquent and entirely honest,” ranging from “singer/songwritery” (The Phoenix) to “hand-clapping, countrified rock” (Portland Press Herald).
The concert stage is in the sanctuary of the Unitarian Church at 61 Military St. in Houlton. Refreshments will be on sale during intermission, and the Cup Cafe will be open before and after the concert serving soup, specialty coffees, teas, hot cocoa, and Italian sodas.
