Husson to hold session about nursing programs

PRESQUE ISLE — Husson University will be holding an information session Thursday night at Northern Maine Community College about advanced degrees and certificates available through Husson’s School of Nursing.

The presentation will be held Nov. 7 at 6 p.m. in NMCC’s Allied Health Department Room — CHR 203.
“This is a great opportunity for those interested in advancing their careers to learn more about Husson University’s educational programs for nurses and nurse practitioners,” said Mary Jude, FNP-C, PA, MSN, MPH and assistant professor of the graduate nursing program.
“Our hybrid learning model allows us to offer much of the instruction online and gives students the ability to continue working as they take courses,” she said. “Any health care professional interested in becoming a nurse educator, a family nurse practitioner or a women’s health nurse practitioner should attend the session.”
Graduate level educational programs at Husson University include a nursing educator master’s degree (MSN Ed) and a women’s health nurse practitioner (WHNP) post-masters certificate. Right now, there is significant marketplace demand for nursing educators who can help develop the next generation of health care practitioners.
Husson also offers a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP) post-master’s certificate. This transformational program provides training to skilled nurse practitioners who want to specialize in the delivery of health care services to women.
WHNP program coursework builds on a student’s existing primary care knowledge. Advanced practice nurses prepared at the master’s degree level as an adult or family nurse practitioner may be eligible to earn this certificate by completing 21 credit hours and 688 internship hours within a 12-month period. The majority of coursework is provided in an online format.
Once completed, WHNP certificate graduates will have an in-depth knowledge of women’s health. They will be qualified to provide gynecological services including well-woman care, health education, contraceptive counseling and prenatal care. Graduation from this program also qualifies Masters of Science in Nursing-prepared WHNP graduates to sit for the national certifying examination. Women’s health nurse practitioners practice under the rules and regulations of State Boards of Nursing.
