Rotarians gear up for annual auction

HOULTON, Maine — No matter what your age or how you spend your time, you can feel good about bidding during the 58th Houlton Rotary Auction Nov. 25-27.
What better way to show how thankful you are at this time of year? Your bids and purchase of auction items go directly to these projects.

Kids can be thankful for the new Houlton Elementary School playground basketball court and a three-year computerized phonics-based, individualized reading program that can be worked on at home. With the help of the auction, junior-senior students will use a new green house on the Houlton High Bird Farm.  Students will learn self-sustaining environmental skills and how to manage various crops.
Families can be thankful for the support of the Rotary for  outfitting a computer lab and for tumbling mats for the Mommy and Me Program of the Adopt-A-Block program. The Aid for Kids program is supported to help with the shipping costs of a wide range of essential clothing and other supplies to needy families throughout the county.
Backpack for Kids is a program that sends a backpack home from school with a child; the backpack contains basic food provisions, sometimes when the need is not generally known.
The whole community will benefit from a digital subscription to FreedomFlix, a history program that brings history alive at the Cary Library, plus a small storage building for McGill’s Band chairs.
Finally, people will benefit from the support for Sarah’s House (Cancer Care of Maine) in Brewer and support for the Dominican Republic Clean Water Project.
There will be something in the auction for everyone and  purchases support all of these worthwhile projects.
Those who would like to donate an “Add On” item for the auction, e-mail auction chair Amy Hocking at ahocking@northcountryassociates.com or contact a Rotarian.
