Senior students from the Region Two School of Applied Technology toured Husson University and their partner school — the New England School of Communications (NESCOM) in Bangor Oct. 25. This was their second university visit under Region Two’s MELMAC Initiative, which aspires to support students’ transition to post-secondary opportunities. The group toured the UMPI campus earlier in the month.
Region Two expanded the initiative and invited all Region Two students and parents or guardians to tour Northern Maine Community College on Nov. 4.
MELMAC Initiative Lead, Region Two Auto Body Instructor Ammie London said “I feel that this initiative is important to our students’ future and post-secondary success.”
Students visited Husson University‘s entire campus when they first arrived and after lunch, in their state of the art student dining hall, they proceeded onto the NESCOM campus where they visited their radio, television, and recording studios and classrooms. Their digital photography studio and on-campus radio station were other highlights of the tour.
Region Two Director David Keaton indicated that after the initial college tours the focus of the Initiative will change to helping students and parents complete college, industry, or military applications and financial aid forms. The first of these evenings will be on Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 6 p.m.
A second round of college and industry visits will commence in the spring, which will focus on touring schools that have articulation agreements and dual enrollments with Region Two and industries that align with Region Two’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. MELMAC is a non-profit and is Maine’s largest, non-college affiliated, educational foundation.
