The Nov. 2 meeting of the Mars Hill United Methodist Women was held at noon in the church vestry with 10 members and seven guests attending. Lunch was enjoyed after Joan Boone read a very appropriate food blessing. Dessert was served by co-hostesses Joan Boone and Joan Walsh.
After an hour of socializing, the group moved into the sanctuary where Joan Walsh introduced her program, and her brother, Dr. Gordon Somerville, retired orthopedic surgeon formerly of Presque Isle, who was accompanied by his wife, Mary. They now live in Portage Lake in the summer and spend winters in Arizona.
Dr. Somerville showed a film about his trip last spring to Bhutan, northeast of India. He did medical work at one of the hospitals, but also spent time seeing some interesting sights, as shown by his presentation that was enjoyed by all.
The business meeting followed in the church vestry with President Donna leading all in the Purpose Pledge and Prayer. The secretary’s and treasurer’s reports were read and approved as read. After some discussion about the recent Craft Fair and Luncheon, all agreed it was very successful.
A get-well card was signed by all for a member of the church who is recuperating in the hospital from recent surgery. After the benediction, the meeting was adjourned. The next meeting on Dec. 2 will be a Christmas Party and Yankee Swap.
Guests attending included: Dr. and Mrs. Gordon Somerville, Amy Kneeland, Betty Simonson Rideout, Betty Mahan and Dr. and Mrs. Eric Nicholas. Members attending included: Joan Walsh, Joan Boone, Donna Brewer, Jackie Bradley, Gaye Cronkite, Diane Ketchum, Daisy Campbell, Frances Banks, Elaine Bailey and Clara Hussey.
