Book Fair under way at Mapleton school

MAPLETON NEWS

by Jennifer Buzza

The Mapleton Parents Organization is sponsoring its annual fall Scholastic Book Fair beginning today through Wednesday, Nov. 27.

The Book Fair will be open during school hours and will have extended hours during parent/teacher conferences Monday, Nov. 25 and Tuesday, Nov. 26. What a great way to do some Christmas shopping while supporting our local elementary school.
In conjunction with book fair activities, there will be a grandparent luncheon tomorrow, Nov. 21.

Birthdays

Birthday wishes this week go out to Rena Carlin, Kristy Kenney, Carol Kennedy, Owen Estey, Patty Brewer, Susan Doyen, Clarissa Buck, Katherine Buck, Jacob Scifers, Elizabeth Brewer, Rebecca Lafland, Audry Milliard, Andrea Bard Smith, Allen Michaud, Nancy Charette and Ryan Hansen.

Anniversaries

Anniversary wishes this week go out to Billy and Carolyn Doyen and Todd and Joanna Newlands on the 24th, Bill and Bonnie Landry on the 25th, and Ronnie and Julie Roope and Larry and Debbie Sawyer on the 26th.

Box Tops and soup labels

Have you noticed the colorful coupons on some of your grocery packaging that say “Box Tops for Education?” Have you wondered what they were for and who might benefit from them? What about the point coupons on the back of Campbell’s soup and Spaghetti O’s cans? Well, the students at the Mapleton Elementary School, under the direction of the Mapleton Parents Organization, have an ongoing fundraiser and would welcome the support of the community.
All you need to do is cut out the “Box Tops” from any participating company’s product or remove the soup labels from your Campbell’s soup cans (as well as other Campbell’s products). If you have a student that attends MES, place those Box Tops and point coupons in a small bag and send it to school. Anyone can collect these items and send them to the school or drop them off in the Main Office.
The MPO receives 10 cents for each Box Top and credit toward products for the school with the Campbell’s points. The school is also collecting Capri Sun pouches, too. What a great way to help the students in the community and do a little recycling in the process!

Girl Scout orders in

If you placed an order from Mapleton Girl Scout Troop 1133 earlier this fall for nuts or candy, those items will be distributed to the girls Saturday, Nov. 23. Girls and their families will be out delivering to their customers after that. The troop would like to thank the generous support of family, friends and neighbors for helping make this fundraiser so successful. Watch for the upcoming cookie sale in January.
