Rotary Club to help with outdoor basketball court

This year is the 58th annual radio/TV/Internet auction. It has come a long way since its beginnings at the Northland Hotel and at Ricker College and has donated many dollars to the community.

The major project for this year’s auction is a donation to the Houlton Elementary School PTO. They have been working on the development of an outdoor basketball court for over two years. The first part of the project was completed in conjunction with the engineering department of the National Guard who did all of the site work. The basketball goals have been purchased and the concrete pad has been contracted. The final phase is to purchase and install the exterior tiles.

Lori Weston, Rotary Club president, right, presents Charity Cyr, PTO president and several students with a check toward that goal. This year’s Rotary Auction proceeds will continue to help complete the project. Taking part in the presentation are students, from left, Gavin Drew, Landon Hipsley, Dominic Hatch, Jay Tweedie, McKenna Avery, Olivia Cyr and Jazlynn McNinch.

The donation from the Rotary Club will put them well on their way into the final phase. Soon the students and families from the community and surrounding areas will have the opportunity to play.
“The Rotary Club is excited to be part of creating another venue for our area children to get outside and moving,” said Lori Weston, Rotary president.
