From Nov. 9-11, there was a Memorial display held at the Tingley House in memory of all veterans, from the Civil War, World War I, WW II, Vietnam, and the present war in Afghanistan. There were war albums, letters and also a Civil War rifle, complete with bayonet.
All these items were gathered by Greg Ran, his daughter, Mataya, and Rebecca Drew and carefully laid out in sections. Many attended the display during the three days it was on display. On Nov. 16, King-Mitchell post 7529 held its annual turkey raffle at the post home, with chef Grey Hawk and his assistants doing the cooking, assisted by Reneva Smith and daughter, Margaret.
The roast turkey and ham supper was served at 5:30 p.m. with a large crowd on hand. Following the supper, the turkey raffle was held and all the turkeys were successfully raffled off. Proceeds from the supper will go toward finishing the last half of the post home roof, which was in need of repair.
At last, the big gray squirrel has returned and was seen last week busily chewing up all the sunflower seeds he could and while doing this scaring away all the small gold finch, chickadees and wrens. I have a new feeder that he also gets at and knocks the top of it off so he can get at the seeds.
I have seen a big pretty coon cat around lately, especially around the front steps, where I think the woodchuck hides. I think the woodchuck is too fast for the cat to catch, and too big, too. I saw a doe and her fawns the other day way down back by the woods. They grazed for about half an hour before heading back into the woods.
