UMPI to host memorial vigil for Abigail Ladner

PRESQUE ISLE — Students and staff at the University of Maine at Presque Isle will host a memorial vigil for classmate Abigail Ladner on Thursday, Nov. 21, at 8 p.m. in the Campus Center.

Campus and community members are welcome to join in this remembrance of the 19-year-old UMPI student from Fort Fairfield, who passed away on Friday from injuries she received in a head-on collision in late October.  FS-AccidentVictimDies-dcx-sh-47
UMPI faculty member Barb Blackstone will lead the memorial, which will include a slideshow and time for students and other participants to share their memories of Ladner. A memory board will be available for those who would like to post photos and other messages throughout the event. The board will be given to Ladner’s family.
The memorial will end with the release of 19 sky lanterns (floating luminaries) from the balcony of the Campus Center — one sky lantern to represent each year of Abby’s life. Luminary bags will line the balcony for the sky lantern release. Participants will have an opportunity early in the evening to write messages on the bags, which will stay lit during the night in Ladner’s honor.
