Katahdin Trust donates to UVEC

    SHERMAN — The Upper Valley Economic Corporation recently received a donation of $2,500 from the Katahdin Trust Company to be used for the general budget. The generous donation will help with the continuation of UVEC’s operation.
    UVEC has several projects underway to strengthen the local economy of Sherman and Stacyville. Some of the projects include:

    • A wind project that when completed will bring revenue to local businesses, individuals, as well as tax revenue for Sherman and Stacyville.
    • A Revolving Loan Fund for startup and established businesses in Southern Aroostook and Northern Penobscot Counties.
    • Working with the Katahdin Partnership (an open network of communities and stakeholders) working together to implement the Corridor Partnership Plan for the Katahdin Woods and Waters Scenic Byway, and to strengthen the tourism industry in the Katahdin area.

    The Upper Valley Economic Corporation was formed in 1999 with a mission to provide the best possible environment for local investment and entrepreneurial activity, promote existing business expansion, and to market the area to new industries. UVEC is funded by the towns of Sherman and Stacyville.
    UVEC is working diligently to bring businesses to our area and to help existing businesses grow and prosper. UVEC is also working with the Municipals and Local Organizations in seeking funds for their projects. The generous donation from Katahdin Trust will be a tremendous asset for UVEC in the developing of Sherman and Stacyville’s economy.
