The Daughters of Isabella Holy Rosary Circle 638 held their monthly meeting on Nov. 5 at the Parish Center in Caribou. Regent Mary Ellen Field called the meeting to order at 6:05 p.m. Chancellor Jeanine Morneault led in the opening prayer. Pledge of Allegiance was recited and the Ode sung.

Vi Cummings Sirois was the recipient of the birthday gift of the month and “Happy Birthday” was sung. The 50/50 raffle in the amount of $13.50 was won by Regent Mary Ellen Field who returned it to the treasury.
Our Regent, along with Chancellor, led a Memorial Service for our deceased member in 2013. Lighting the candle in memory of Lena Dyer was Elizabeth Beaulieu, in memory of Patricia Haley was lit by Fern Michaud and in memory of Viola Willard was lit by Viola Cumming Sirois. The “Our Father” prayer was played.
The installation of our Monitor Madeline Guerrette was held with Debbie Chabre acting as Marshal. All officers of the Circle for the coming two years have been duly elected. Roll call of officers showed three absent.
Communications were read and included “thank you” cards from the family of Marie Cullins, from Yvette Lagasse for the Daughters furnishing refreshments at the Sept. 3 Conference, and from Madeline Guerrette for prayers and a card received during her recent surgery.
It was reported that State Secretary Susan Palmer of Bangor is now the proud grandmother of twin girls.
Under Visitation of the Sick, it was reported by Vice Regent Elaine Haines that cards were sent to Omerine Cyr, Jeanine Belanger, Mary Ellen Field, Rena Lagasse and Dick Chabre. Cards will be sent to Jeanine Belanger and Jan Corriveau.
Under Old Business, Past Regent Gail Hjort and member Tammy Nadeau are working on the new books. Regent Mary Ellen thanked the ladies who attended the Officers’ Training Workshop held in Caribou on Oct. 12.
The Daughters will be selling the discount cards at the weekend Masses on Nov. 23 and Nov. 24. If anyone wants any of these cards, please contact a Daughter of Isabella. These make very nice gifts and they can be used at 18 vendors every day of the year in Caribou and Presque Isle; and they are good until Dec. 1, 2014.
Under New Business, the Christmas Party is to be held Dec. 3 at 6 p.m. at the Parish Center. A motion was made by Tina Sirois and seconded by Adeline Beaulieu, to have Frederick’s South Side cater the meal at a cost of $13 per plate. A motion was made by Jean Bushnell and seconded by Debbie Chabre to bring a  $10 gift for exchange, for those who want to exchange gifts. Jean Bushnell moved and Tina Sirois seconded to bring canned good for the food pantry and items for the baby layettes if wanted. All three motions carried. Guests are welcomed at the party.
Regent Mary Ellen thanked the refreshment committee for this month: Dolores D. Martin, Doris Albert, Joan Bishop and Jeanine Morneault. Next month on Dec. 3 at 6 p.m., supper will be followed by a short meeting, followed by the Christmas Party. The committee includes Sharon Ellis, Julie Goodale, Kristina McElwain, Chelsea McElwain, Ozline Fisher, Debbie Chabre, Madeline Guerrette and Elizabeth P. Beaulieu.
Obligation was taken, the closing prayer recited and the Daughters of Isabella song sung.
