Preseason tourney results
The region was busy with three preseason basketball tournaments held Friday and Saturday, and another held earlier this week, as teams prepare for the regular season, which gets under way this weekend.

The Presque Isle Varsity Club’s Tip-Off Classic was one of the tourneys. On Friday, the Wildcat girls stormed past Oceanside, 50-36, while the PI boys dropped a 71-63 decision to the Mariners. In Saturday’s contests, the PI girls bested Waterville, 52-39, while the ’Cat boys lost to Waterville, 71-62.
In Caribou’s event, the host Vikings swept Friday’s contests as the girls picked up a 54-47 win over Waterville and the boys used Dayne Savage’s buzzer-beating three-pointer to get past the Panthers, 62-59.
On Saturday, Oceanside handled the Caribou girls, 65-33, before the Vikings stopped the Mariners in the boys’ game, 57-51.
Washburn hosted a four-team boys’ tourney, with the Beavers beating Easton, 60-59, and Central Aroostook stopped Ashland, 55-52, on the first night.
In Saturday’s matchups, Easton drubbed Ashland, 76-37, while Washburn earned a 71-57 triumph over CA.
An all-tournament team was selected and included Easton’s Hunter Turner and Connor Burtt, Washburn’s Cameron Bragg and Kenny Irving, Ashland’s Michael Cook and Central Aroostook’s Zach McClung.
Preseason play continued Monday and Tuesday evenings in Mars Hill with a girls’ event featuring Washburn, Houlton, Central Aroostook and Ashland.
In a hockey tournament taking place Friday and Saturday in Bangor’s Sawyer Arena, the Presque Isle Wildcats bested Houlton/Hodgdon, 4-1, while losing to Bangor and Brewer by the same margins.
In the victory, Dan Boucher, Tyler Seeley, Alex Michaud and Ryder Soucy were the goal scorers. Mikey Michaud and Seeley both had two assists. Andrew Michaud scored off a Joseph Patenaude assist in the loss to Bangor, while Soucy netted an unassisted goal against Brewer. Jillian Flynn and Oliver Gerrish handled the goalkeeping duties for the Wildcats.
