The Maine Sports Hall of Fame Scholarship Committee has announced that Carsyn Koch of Washburn is one of five Maine high school seniors who are recipients of $5,000 scholarships.
This scholarship will be presented at the Maine Sports Hall of Fame awards banquet being held at the Augusta Civic Center next May.
Koch, a four-time individual Class D cross country champion, has also played on three state championship basketball squads at Washburn and is a member of the 2013 Class D state champs in soccer.
She has also captured individual state titles in various events in track and field during her career.
Other recipients of the 2014 scholarships are Ian Lee of Madawaska High School, Alexandra Logan of Cheverus High School in Portland, Mikayla Turner of Messalonskee High School in Oakland and Rayne Whittten of Massabesic High School in Waterboro.
Lee is the all-time boys soccer scoring leader in Maine history and helped lead the Owls to the 2013 Eastern Maine Class C boys soccer championship. Logan was a standout for the Cheverus girls lacrosse squad that won the 2013 Class A state championship and earned All-American honors in the process. An all-around standout at Messalonskee, Turner will graduate with 12 varsity letters and has helped lead her Eagles squads to four berths in regional championship games.
A standout in field hockey and lacrosse, Whitten starred in field hockey while leading her lacrosse team to a Western Maine Class A championship in 2013.
The mission of the Maine Sports Hall of Fame is to acknowledge outstanding achievements in sport in the state and to support a scholarship program that recognizes outstanding student-athletes from Maine high schools.
