CARIBOU — Jesse G. Belanger of Caribou has been named the new public safety coordinator at the Region One Emergency Management Agency.
The Aroostook County Commissioners unanimously confirmed Belanger during a recent meeting in Fort Kent. EMA director Darren R. Woods recommended Belanger to the full-time position, which became effective Dec. 5.
“Mr. Belanger has the exact skill set we were looking for in this position and we are looking forward to having him in our office,” Woods said.
The public safety coordinator, based at the Caribou EMA office, will work in all arenas of public safety in Aroostook County. Belanger explained he will wear two hats, that of deputy director of the Aroostook EMA and that of deputy chief of North Lakes Fire and Rescue. He will divide his time between the two posts, spending a couple of days a week up north and other days in Caribou.
“I am very excited for the opportunity to serve Aroostook County’s citizens, both with North Lakes Fire and Rescue and with Aroostook County EMA,” Belanger commented.
North Lakes Fire and Rescue encompasses the communities of Madawaska Lake, Cross Lake, Sinclair and Square Lake, with three stations and about 42 firefighters.
In his new role, Belanger takes the place of Woods, who was promoted to the county EMA director position on Oct. 21.
Belanger resides in Caribou with his wife, Heidi, and 2-year-old son, Benson.
