City teachers’ work hours

To the editor:
Here’s one example of teaching hours at Teague Park school. One recent evening, just as I was beginning to wonder just where my daughter was, she called from school. Just looked at the clock (6 p.m.) and realized the time. I said, “be careful going to your car.” She replies, “there’s lots of people here, don’t worry.”

Teacher expenditures in hands of board

To the editor:
I want to publicly thank all of the many people who have personally thanked me for writing my recent Letters to the Editor regarding RSU 39 teacher expenditures. I encourage these individuals and others who have supported my position to let the RSU 39 School Board members know how they feel.
The school Board members are: Lynn McNeal, Mary White, Kent Forbes, Dale Gordon, all of Caribou; Cliff Rhome and Michelle Albert, Limestone: and John Sjostedt, Stockholm.
Thank you to all who have supported me and Merry Christmas to everyone, teachers included!

Appreciates City Council votes

To the editor:
I would like to thank the 458 people who voted for me in the Nov. 5, 2013 City Council election.
I know that it takes a big effort for many people to get to the polls and that voting is the most precious of our rights and freedoms. It is also our greatest obligation as citizens in a democracy. Accordingly, I regret that the city has disregarded your votes. I regret that the public was not notified that one of my opponents was not even eligible to be on the ballot in the first place, thereby, eliminating another 776 votes. The election had 1,701 votes cast for the selection of two new council persons, but 1,234 of the votes cast have been discarded.
Rather than take appropriate action prior to citizens casting their votes the city leaders have engaged in a post-election process that violates the rules we have for conducting elections. If there are two available seats and only two candidates who were eligible to be seated on the Council — then the two legal candidates ran unopposed for the two available council chairs and should be seated.
I sincerely regret that any of this happened, but believe that it is my responsibility as a citizen and candidate to advocate that this election be fair. I hope you will continue to support me in my efforts to seek a legal and just resolution.
