Ark Animal Sanctuary

As 2013 comes to a close we would like to thank the community for their continued support. Our work would not be possible with out you. In November we proudly opened our doors to The Sanctuary. It is small but it is completely paid for and it will keep our furry friends warm and comfortable until they find their fur-ever homes.

Our volunteers work tirelessly raising money and giving their own time whether it be for vet runs, maintaining the web site, cleaning litter boxes or standing out in the freezing cold selling baked goods. We consider ourselves a family and work together as a team to accomplish everything. Yes we get over tired and overwhelmed and we bring home too many animals. But we all have the same drive and goals, no more homeless animals. Imagine a world where there are no more unwanted pets, where they all have the loving homes they deserve. It is a tall order but not completely impossible. I learned a long time ago never say never.
We think about all of the happy endings that we have been a part of and that warms our hearts and puts a smile on our faces. Along with all the happy endings, there were also some heartbreaking stories. We cannot forget Baby, Boo Boo, Curly Sue, Ridley and so many countless others. They hold a special place in our hearts and give us the drive to continue our work. We loved them and cried for them and promised them that their lives were meaningful and that they did not die in vain. They stand as a reminder that there are too many homeless animals and that we need to make a difference.
Every day when the mail comes I open Christmas cards with donations in them, praising our work. With every card I open and with every donation that is made I smile and am very glad to be a part of such a great, caring and giving community. We have received bags of food and toys and cleaning supplies. We have also been the recipients of several grants. All of this makes our work possible. Whether you have adopted from us, baked for our bake sales or purchased food from our bake sales, or have volunteered your time, we consider you a part of our family and are very proud to have your support.
We wish you all a happy and safe holiday season. Please join us on Saturday, Dec. 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a bake sale outside the Hollywood Pet salon. It will be our biggest bake sale of the year and we will take special requests. Let us cook for you after a long day of Christmas shopping. We will have dinners to go plus all or our regulars and plenty of pies and desserts.
Thank you for your continued support and as always thank you for reading our column.
