Club’s inaugural craft fair a success

MAPLETON NEWS

by Jennifer Buzza

The Chapman Ridge Runners Snowmobile and ATV Club would like to thank its members and the general public for attending our first craft fair that was held Saturday, Dec. 7.

It was very successful and all proceeds were applied to our groomer repair expenses. Many of our members donated handmade items and baked goods. We are most appreciative! The grooming crew is just about ready to go and trails should be groomed before Christmas. All blow-downs from the recent high winds need to be removed on all trails before grooming can begin.
The next club event is our annual auction night Saturday, Jan. 11 with a potluck supper at 6 p.m. and an auction at 6:45 p.m. There will be Brown Bag Auction items on one table (surprises concealed in a brown paper bag) and regular auction items on another. Donations for either table are welcome. It’s a fun evening for all! All snowmobile and ATV members and guests are welcome. For more information, contact Sue Maynard at 764-1236.

DURING THE RECENT annual wreath making at Mapleton Elementary School, second-grade student Kaleigh Phillips and her mom, Sue, paused for a photo. The school-wide project is sponsored by the Mapleton Parent Organization and the wreath is hung on the front of the building for the community to enjoy. Richards Tree Farm in Mapleton donated the boughs to construct the eight-foot wreath. Organizers estimate that this has been an 18-year tradition at MES.

MAPLETON DAZE committee members had help serving their fund-raiser dinner last month from some of the reigning 2013 Mapleton queens. Pictured are, from left: Teen Miss Mapleton Madison Shaw, Junior Miss Mapleton Brittany Warner, Miss Mapleton Rachel Dow and Pre-Teen Miss Mapleton Samantha Boulier. Absent when the photo was taken was Little Miss Mapleton Bailey Plummer. The Mapleton Daze Committee is meeting monthly getting ready for Mapleton Daze June 2014. They are looking for volunteers to help. Anyone interested may contact any Mapleton Daze committee member.

Special thanks

Caring Area Neighbors for Cancer Education and Recovery (C.A.N.C.E.R.) would like to publicly thank Sue Skidgel and her “angels” for the very wonderful pillowcases they made for the organization. They were put in each Bread of Life bag that was delivered last week.
According to board member Louise Cardone-Calabrese, the pillowcases brought those receiving them “lots of love, comfort and support.”
“So many were very taken with the idea of their own pillowcase and they knew they were filled with special prayers, too,” Cardone-Calabrese said. “I wish I could thank each one of you personally with lots of hugs, so I’m taking this opportunity to send you hugs from my heart to your hearts … as I know that’s what each patient would want me to do.”

Artistic talent needed

Mark your calendars for the annual Planet Head Day that will be held Feb. 15, 2014 at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. If anyone is interested in helping paint planets on heads or caps, please call Louise at 764-0766. This is an annual fundraiser for Caring Area Neighbors for Cancer Education and Recovery (C.A.N.C.E.R.) and many volunteers are needed!
