CARIBOU — Officials with Catholic Charities Maine (CCM) recently announced the appointments of two staff members to head efforts in Aroostook County.
Dixie Shaw has been named Director of Hunger and Relief Services for the organization. In this new position, Shaw will continue to oversee operations for CCM’s Food Bank in Aroostook County, which serves 25 area food pantries, and manage expansion efforts for the organization’s Farm for ME program, an idea piloted in Aroostook County this year in an effort to supply the pantries with fresh vegetables and education on nutrition.

Additionally, Shaw will continue to build and expand Catholic Charities’ recycling efforts through the used clothing project, e-trash, scrap metal and cardboard. She will also be responsible for relief efforts administered by CCM statewide in times of disaster.
Shaw previously served as director of the food bank and northern thrift stores.
Debbie Pelkey has been named the manager of northern retail stores for Threads of Hope. Pelkey will be responsible for managing day-to-day operations for the three CCM thrift stores, Threads of Hope, located in Monticello, Presque Isle and Caribou.
“We are truly fortunate to be able to find and promote talent from within our organization when new opportunities arise,” said Stephen Letourneau, CEO of Catholic Charities Maine.
“Shaw and Pelkey both have demonstrated a dedication that goes above and beyond, and I am confident we can expect great things from these programs under their leadership,” Letourneau added.
