BRIDGEWATER, Maine — A tractor-trailer truck accident early Wednesday morning led to U.S. Route 1 being shut down for a period of time, to allow emergency personnel to investigate.
“On Jan. 15 at approximately 5:40 a.m., Trooper Recruit Adam Bell responded to a report of a tractor trailer crash on Route 1 in Bridgewater. Abdellatif Majji, 56, of Las Vegas — owner of the truck — was traveling south on Route 1 and lost control on a patch of ice,” said Sgt. Brian Harris, of the Maine State Police.
According to Harris, the truck crossed the roadway, going off the northbound side of the road and striking a utility pole.
“The truck flipped onto its side and caused the cab of the truck to detach from the truck. Majji and his female passenger, Fatima Hmidouche, 36, of Las Vegas, both escaped injury in the crash,” Harris said.
The tractor trailer sustained substantial damage in the accident and was towed from the scene after its cargo of rolls of paper was off-loaded by a crew at the scene.
“Route 1 was closed for several hours while the accident scene was cleaned up and the utility pole was replaced,” said Harris.
The Bridgewater Fire Department assisted at the scene of the accident, along with Troopers Nick Casavant, Robert Flynn and Darryl Pelletier.
