Alpine skiers solid at Fort Kent meet
Lonesome Pine Trails in Fort Kent was the host site for an alpine ski meet Saturday.
The host Warriors swept the team competitions, but some local individuals turned in solid performances. In the afternoon run, Presque Isle’s Bryce Smith was third in 1:23.39, Kyle MacCallum fifth in 1:26.35 and Nick Bartlett ninth in 1:34.09. For Central Aroostook, Cody Clayton came in fourth in 1:25.7 and Zach Grass was sixth in 1:30.62.
During the morning run, Clayton was fifth in 1:21.48, Grass sixth in 1:28.93 and Devon Faulkner ninth in 1:31.73 to lead the Panthers. Smith came in seventh in 1:30.11 and MacCallum 10th in 1:32.31.
For the girls in the afternoon event, CA’s Samantha Kearney was sixth in 1:38.13 and teammate Nicole Gebhart was eighth in 1:44.89. Cameo Madore of PI was ninth in 52.06 and Shannon Sweeney 10th in 1:47.15.
Shannon Sweeney was fifth in 1:37.82, Madore sixth in 1:37.89 and Alyssa Sweeney ninth in 1:44.78 in the morning, while Kearney claimed the eighth slot in 1:43.18.
In Monday’s cross country pursuit race held in Fort Kent, Sarah Beaulieu of Fort Fairfield was third overall for girls. Gannon Therrien and Noah Rossignol both were in the top-10 in the boys’ race, with Therrien placing sixth and Rossignol eighth.
Last Tuesday at Madawaska, Therrien registered a top-10 performance in the freestyle race, coming in at 18:47 for 10th place. For girls, Beaulieu was third in 20:50 as the only local skier among the top 10.
The next alpine meet is Saturday at Bigrock in Mars Hill and the next Nordic event is planned for Tuesday, Jan. 28 in Caribou.
