To the editor:
It has come to my attention that our great and wonderful country is no longer so great nor wonderful. Our government sends billions of dollars to foreign countries in the form of bailouts. Our country sends billions of dollars to foreign countries to feed the filthy rich while claiming it is for the poor. Our country also sends billions of dollars to foreign countries to support their military and to line the pockets of their politicians.
Yet our government refuses to spend one thin dime to help its own people unless they are among the rich and powerful. We used to be the richest and strongest nation on the planet. I fear that is no longer the case.
We (the American people) need to stand up for ourselves against the oppression of our government. We need to take back our country. We are no longer “For the people, by the people.” We are now “For the Government, by the Government.” We vote, but does our vote count? No it does not. The government has gotten too big for its pants.
The poor can no longer afford needed medicines nor can they afford to even see a doctor. Here in the state of Maine, if you are at or below the poverty level you have no way to get any help with needed medical costs, which are on the rise again. If you are disabled and have not yet been granted your disability, and can’t afford to pay for your medical expenses. Too bad, sorry about your situation. That is what our wonderful Governor Paul LePage will tell you.
By now I’m sure that most of you know he terminated Medicaid here in Maine (also known as MaineCare) for anyone listed as non-categorical. Which means unless you are on disability already, you lost your MaineCare if you are over 21 years of age. And you probably received a letter from DHHS telling you that you need to go to www.healthcare.gov — also known as Obamacare.
Let me save you the trouble. That site is a joke. Once you enter your income, if it is below the poverty level, the site tells you that you do not qualify for any government assistance in paying for your health insurance. You must fork out the full monthly premium yourself. And pay a huge deductible. The lowest by the way is $5,000 a year.
If you do not get health insurance, you will be assessed a fine, that doubles each year that you do not have health insurance. Once again it’s the poor that are targeted.
If enough of us refuse to file income taxes and refuse to allow this military jackbooted thug of a government to push us around any longer, maybe things will change. It’s time to take a stand. We are not prisoners of war, we are Americans! And we deserve better treatment than that of a common prisoner, yet that is exactly how we are being treated by our own government. You are the one they work for. Fire them!
