Editor’s note: The following article is a synopsis written by staff members and volunteers of the Cary Public Library highlighting one of the suggested reading books, as determined by their staff.
The Children’s Library received many wonderful books over the Christmas season.
One of those donated was “Noisy Bug Sing Along” by John Himmelman. Pictures of bugs in detail will delight children and the noises these bugs make will delight those little ones who can’t read yet. One little patron has the noises almost memorized from frequent readings by his Mom and sister!
This book gives facts about the noisy bugs along with vivid pictures and some games to play to illustrate the idea of sound waves. Fun and factual find for you, friends.
A second book, “The Cloud Spinner” by Michael Catchpool, illustrated by Alison Jay is an essay on what could happen from the selfishness of some to affect many other people. Fantasy, yes, yet the story compels us to think of “Enough is enough and not one stitch more.”
There is a limit to the earth’s resources and it might be well for people to rethink what is truely necessary to live our lives in comfort. Clouds produce water and if there are no clouds: no water. The children of this book are wiser than their king and queen. Illustrations of clouds are so fun, adding to the dreamy landscapes.
